Open since 2011, Ten Pound is the secret bar of Los Angeles. Tucked away above The Restaurant at the Montage in Beverly Hills, Ten Pound is home to a unique “bar” experience that feels more like you’re hanging out in the study of an ultra-elite businessman who has rare liquors you’ve never heard of and are almost guaranteed to be too expensive for you to taste. The walls are made of mahogany, the tables are marble, and the glasses are Lalique… there’s very little detail that goes unnoticed here.
Ten Pound has 3 seating areas on its outdoor patio overlooking Beverly Canon Garden. Replete with couches, Baccarat crystal lamps, and fireplaces these are the best seats in the house. Inside are tables set amongst the classiest looking bar you’ve ever seen and, of course, some more Baccarat. But, if you’re paying $65+ for a drink, I’d recommend only going if you can get one of the private seating areas on the outdoor patio.
You can enter through the kitchen of the restaurant or some other convoluted way I never really remember through the hotel. Once you finally figure out how to enter you are greeted by David or Cash, the two who run the show here.
Ten Pound is the only official outpost of famed single malt distillery, The Macallan, in the US. It is the only place in the world where one can enjoy a glass of the world’s most expensive whisky—The Macallan 64 Years Old single malt, healthily priced at $60,000 per shot. For some odd reason I’ve never gotten to try this one!
I’m not big on whisky so I always ask Cash to make me something. He’s not your average bartender, and if you go enough, you can tell him that you want something that reminds you of “warm summer nights” or some other description. It’s a guarantee he’ll whip something up with exotic liquors or impress you with a classic that just tastes way better than anywhere else. Maybe it’s the Baccarat confusing me.
As Cash says, I do have a very complex palette ?♂️
As any liquor aficionado knows, it’s the ice that really makes the difference. Choose from Kold-Draft cubes, whisky stones, or a Highland Springs Scottish water ball. If you’re feeling really extravagant, ask for the custom £10 ice bulb. I’m not bougie enough for these things, so I take whatever is being offered.
Ah the bacon. Nothing is a better nightcap than some crispy bacon paired with an over-the-top cocktail you could never make yourself. In addition to the crispy bacon, they also bring out aged gouda and curry nuts.
Our Last Visit
Our last time to £10 coincided with someone’s birthday in our party, so we naturally got him the best birthday present one could ever ask for:
- Cupcake Rose in a Can
- A 4 pack of Sutter Home Merlot… mhmmmm yum
- Beverly Hills Shot Glass
- Red Bull Can
- Pack of Marlboro Golds (?)
The £10 Experience
This “bar” is unlike any bar I’ve ever been to before, and it’s priced accordingly. If one day I happen to be a rich man, I will come here frequently. But, for now, I’ll settle for the occasional invite.Loading Likes...
