All Day Bread Paradise

For a late Father’s Day dinner we headed over to Milo & Olive in Santa Monica. They’ve got a bakery and they cook amazing neapolitan pizza. Could it get any better?

I’m a big fan of some of their other restaurants like Rustic Canyon, and they just opened up a restaurant called Standing Room Only as well that serves New York style pizza. So I was pretty excited to try this. As you know, I’m a huge fan of pizza, especially Neapolitan style pizza, and this did not disappoint.

The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty nice. They have an open kitchen, so you can really get a sense of what’s going on back there. Seeing them chefin’ up your pie is always exciting. They’ve also got REALLY good bottles of well-priced Italian wine. This is mandatory and non-negotiable if you want to eat Italian pizza.

What we Ordered

  • Baby Gem and Fried Chicken Salad

For starters, we ordered one of the specials which was a fried chicken salad. It was awesome. We also ordered the chicken meatballs (which we unfortunately ended up not getting because they didn’t bring them out), the prosciutto and burrata pizza, and the real winner of the night… the pork belly sausage and kale pizza! It had a vodka sauce. It was delicious. If you go, try it. Enjoy it. Savor it.

Baby Gem and Fried Chicken Salad (10/10)

Incredible. There was some kind of a ranch-esque dressing that was used for it. The salad came with four pieces of fried chicken on top of butter lettuce and gem leaf. There were also some radishes sprinkled in, which provided with a nice crunch and overall completed an amazing salad.

The fried chicken was not Howlin’ Rays but it was very well done. I am typically not a fried chicken person, but if this were to show up on their specials board again, I would definitely order it again.

Burrata and Prosciutto Pizza (9/10)

If it’s got burrata I am ordering it no questions asked. I am a huge burrata fan. I LOVE burrata, so any pizza that has burrata on it has to be amazing no matter what the other toppings are. It also helps that I eat prosciutto basically EVERYDAY because it’s that good.

The burrata pizza at Pizzeria Mozza with squash blossoms is delicious. But this one from Milo & Olive is pretty competitive as well. It comes with arugula on top, some tomato sauce, a little bit of olive oil and sea salt. You’re basically eating burrata and prosciutto on a very delicate Neapolitan style crust, of course it’s absolutely delicious.

Pork Belly Sausage and Kale Pizza (10/10)

They should really be paying me for these rave reviews…

The winner of the night and probably one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in my life was the pork belly sausage and kale. I’m a huge fan of tomato cream sauce or vodka sauce, whatever you want to call it, but I’ve never had it on a pizza before. So this pizza had pork belly sausage and kale with braised garlic on top of a tomato cream vodka sauce and smothered in mozzarella.

A MA Z I N G. I’m going back next week specifically just to order this pizza again. If you go you have to order it. If you don’t, you are doing life wrong.

Dessert

Since they decided to forget to bring us our chicken meatballs (a disappointing yet recurring theme at restaurants for me recently where they forget to fire one of the items I really wanted… looking at you Rustic Canyon not bringing me my brussel sprouts & you Shibumi not bringing the Tonkatsu ?) they gave us complimentary pastries to take home.

At first I was like wow how nice, but then I thought about how they were going to have to toss these pastries anyways because you can’t sell day old pastries as “fresh pastries” but whatever they were still pretty good!
